Getting Around the Graph
The Knowledge Graph is an interactive canvas. You can zoom, pan, search, and adjust how you view your knowledge. This page covers all the ways you can navigate and control your graph.
Zooming and Panning
Zoom In and Out Use your scroll wheel or trackpad pinch gesture to zoom. Zooming changes what you can see and do:
- Zoomed out: You see the overall structure. Clusters of related content become visible. This is great for getting a sense of your knowledge landscape.
- Zoomed in: Card names appear as labels on nodes. Hover previews become available. You can click on individual nodes to select them.
Pan Around Click and drag on empty space to move the view. This lets you explore different areas of your graph without changing the zoom level.
Hover Previews
When you hover over a node while zoomed in enough, a preview card appears. This shows you:
- The card’s thumbnail image (if it has one)
- The title of the card
- The source URL
Hover over the preview card itself to expand it and see more details, including the inbound connections (other cards that reference this one).
Dragging Nodes
You can click and drag any node to reposition it. The graph uses a physics simulation, so connected nodes will follow and adjust naturally when you move things around.
Keeping Nodes in Place
When you drag a node, what happens depends on whether the graph is locked:
- Graph locked: The node stays exactly where you release it. Other nodes remain fixed.
- Graph unlocked: The physics simulation continues running and nodes will settle based on their connections.
To keep a custom arrangement, make sure to lock the graph first using the lock button in the top right corner.
Search
The search bar in the top right corner lets you find cards by name:
- Click on the search bar or use it directly
- Type part of a card’s name
- Matching nodes get highlighted with a glow effect
- Use the up/down arrow buttons or arrow keys to jump between matches
- The view automatically centers on the current match
Keyboard Shortcuts for Search
- Up Arrow (↑): Jump to previous match
- Down Arrow (↓): Jump to next match
The search bar looks for card titles and highlights matches. For more advanced queries like finding cards with specific tags or from specific sources, use the filter in the settings sidebar instead.
View Controls
The top right corner contains quick action buttons:
Fit to View Click the expand icon to automatically zoom and pan so all visible nodes fit on screen. This is useful after filtering or when you want to see everything at once.
Lock/Unlock Graph The lock button freezes all node positions. This is helpful when:
- You want to manually arrange nodes and keep them in place
- You want to explore connections without the layout shifting as you click
- You are presenting or sharing your knowledge map
Click the lock button again to unlock and let the physics simulation run. Note that unlocking releases all node positions.
Settings Sidebar
Click the arrow button in the top left corner to open the settings sidebar. This is where you will find:
- Filters to show only specific cards
- Groups to customize node colors
- Layout to adjust spacing and physics
- Appearance to fine-tune visual style
You can resize the settings panel by dragging its right edge. The sidebar stays open while you explore, so you can adjust settings as you go.
Tips for Efficient Navigation
Start Big, Then Zoom In Begin by looking at your whole graph zoomed out. Notice the clusters and the overall shape. Then zoom into areas that look interesting.
Let the Graph Settle When you first load the graph or unlock it, nodes will move around as the physics simulation runs. Wait a moment for things to settle before you start clicking and exploring.
Use Fit to View Often After applying filters or following a chain of connections, click Fit to View to recenter on what matters.
Lock When Arranging If you want to manually position nodes, lock the graph first. Then drag nodes where you want them. They will stay put.
