Selecting and Exploring Nodes
The Knowledge Graph is not just for looking. You can click on nodes to read their content, follow connections to related cards, and select multiple nodes for bulk actions. This page covers all the ways you can interact with your graph.
Clicking to Select
Click on any node to select it. When you do:
- A details panel opens on the right side showing the full card
- The node and its direct connections stay bright while other nodes dim
- The view centers on the selected node
The details panel includes several tabs:
- Notebook: Your notes and any AI-generated summary
- Reader: The original content (for web pages)
- Chat: Ask AI questions about the card
- Connections: View and navigate to linked cards
- Quiz: Test your knowledge retention
Following Connections
With a card selected, the Connections tab shows all cards linked to it. Click on any connection to navigate there:
- The graph centers on the new card
- The previous card stays highlighted in your path
- You can keep following connections to explore deeply
This is one of the most powerful ways to use the graph. Start with one card and follow connections wherever they lead. You might discover relationships between ideas you never noticed before.
Focus Mode
As you navigate from card to card, the graph keeps track of your path. This is called focus mode:
What You Will See
- Nodes you have visited stay highlighted
- Lines connecting your visited nodes remain bright
- Other nodes dim so you can focus on your exploration path
Managing Your Path
- Right-click on any node in your path to deselect it
- Click the X button in the bottom bar to clear your entire path
- Click on any previous node in your path to jump back to it
Focus mode is automatic. As soon as you start clicking on connected cards, the graph begins tracking your journey. This makes it easy to trace how one idea leads to another.
Multi-Select Mode
Sometimes you want to work with several nodes at once. Multi-select mode lets you do that:
Entering Multi-Select
- Right-click on any node to start selecting
- Right-click on more nodes to add or remove them from your selection
- A toolbar appears at the bottom showing your selection
Exiting Multi-Select
- Click on empty space to clear your selection
- Click the X button in the toolbar
Multi-select closes the details panel so you can focus on your selection.
Finding Paths Between Cards
One of the most interesting things you can do is discover how two cards are connected:
- Select exactly two cards using multi-select (right-click on each)
- Click the path icon in the bottom toolbar
- See the shortest path between them highlighted on the graph
This is a great way to discover unexpected connections. How is your cooking article connected to your programming notes? The path might surprise you.
If the two cards are not connected through any chain of connections, you will see a message letting you know. This means they exist in separate clusters of your knowledge graph.
Bulk Actions
With one or more cards selected in multi-select mode, you can perform bulk actions:
Delete Multiple Cards Click the trash icon in the toolbar to delete all selected cards. Be careful because this permanently removes them from your library, not just from the graph view.
Touch Device Support
On iPads and other touch devices:
- Tap to hover over nodes
- Long press (hold for about half a second) to trigger right-click actions like adding to selection
- Pinch to zoom in and out
- Drag to pan around
Tips for Effective Exploration
Start with a Question Before diving in, think about what you want to learn. Are you looking for connections between two topics? Trying to trace how an idea evolved? Having a goal helps you explore with purpose.
Use the Details Panel When you find an interesting node, take time to read the content in the details panel. The graph shows structure but the real knowledge is in the cards themselves.
Follow Your Curiosity Let connections guide you. If something catches your eye, click on it. The best discoveries often come from unexpected paths.
Remember You Can Go Back Your exploration path stays visible. If you go too deep, you can always click on earlier nodes to return.
